Traditional face recognition products in the market are often designed for specific scenarios, resulting in complex deployments for enterprises that require multiple solutions. Recognizing this challenge, the BAIDU AI CLOUD HCI LAB set out to create a versatile product that can cover all usage scenarios, enabling quick and efficient enterprise deployment.
What sets niroKey apart is its seamless user experience and elegant design. The device features an elegant and round design language, incorporating 2.5D curved glass and a matt white CMF (Color, Material, and Finish) for a unibody aesthetic. This design approach not only enhances the device's visual appeal but also creates a more friendly and comfortable user experience.
Underneath its sleek exterior, niroKey boasts impressive technical capabilities. The device utilizes aluminum material for rapid heat dissipation, ensuring excellent overall heat performance. Equipped with visible light and infrared cameras, it enables highly secure biological recognition. The discreetly hidden fill light on the top of the device allows for normal operation in backlit or dark environments, seamlessly integrated into the gradient printing details for a visually cohesive experience.
Measuring at 400mm x 140mm x 140mm, niroKey is designed to be compact yet powerful, providing a versatile solution for various enterprise needs. Its modular design allows for flexible assembly and disassembly, making it adaptable to different scenarios such as desktop, wall-mounted, or floor-mounted installations.
Operating niroKey is a breeze, with face recognition taking only 0.5 seconds to complete. Unlike traditional face recognition devices, niroKey features a touch screen, offering additional self-service functions such as visitor service and self-checkout. Users can easily register by uploading selfies to the cloud using their mobile phones. The device also supports wireless control, enabling efficient on-site upgrades and operation and maintenance.
The development of niroKey began in March 2019 in Beijing and concluded in January 2020. It was first unveiled at the Baidu Create 2019 – Baidu AI Developer Conference in July 2019, garnering attention for its innovative approach to smart enterprise management. The functional prototype was later exhibited at the 2019 Baidu ABC INSPIRE Summit in September 2019.
Through extensive research and user feedback, the BAIDU AI CLOUD HCI LAB discovered that traditional face recognition products often conveyed a sense of coldness and tension due to their serious geometric shapes and tough edges. In response, niroKey was designed with an elegant and round aesthetic, creating a more friendly and comfortable experience for users. After recognizing users, the device greets them in a warm manner, providing a personalized touch.
niroKey has received recognition for its outstanding design and functionality. In 2020, it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Security, Safety, and Surveillance Products Design category. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements, contributing to a better world.
